Digital Literacy as a Life Skill — Taalim-Forum International Conference 2023

The II International Conference «Образовательные стратегии и инновации в эпоху цифровизации» — Educational Strategies and Innovations in the Era of Digitalization — ran over three days in Sary-Oy village on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul, 8–10 September 2023. It was convened by the Public Foundation “Taalim-Forum” with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, and it brought more than 120 participants and 20 speakers from around 50 organisations across Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Mongolia into the same room.

Aziz Soltobaev spoke on the second day, 9 September 2023, in the afternoon session on Digital Pedagogy for Gender Equality and Inclusion (14:15–15:30). The talk was titled «Цифровая грамотность как жизненный навык» — Digital literacy as a life skill — and sat among the conference’s four substantive sessions: digital transformation for quality and access; digital educational resources; digital pedagogy for gender equality and inclusion; and findings from research on distance learning. The framing of digital literacy as a life skill, rather than as a discrete computer-class subject, is the part of the title that does the work — it places digital competence beside reading, numeracy and civic participation rather than next to subject-specific software training.
