GDG Bishkek DevFest 2015 — How to Build a Successful Startup

On 21 November 2015 Aziz Soltobaev gave a talk titled “How to Build a Successful Startup” at the Bishkek edition of Google’s DevFest, hosted by the Google Developer Group (GDG) Bishkek community. The talk was recorded and remains on the KG Labs channel. It is delivered in Russian to a developer audience — engineers, students, and early-stage founders — rather than to the founder-pitching audience the rest of KG Labs’ 2015 calendar had been aimed at.

The DevFest slot lands at the end of a year in which KG Labs had been running, or partnering on, almost every major founder-facing event in Bishkek: Garage48 in September, The Pitch Bishkek (which sent its winner Asylbek Abdikarimov on to Startup Nations Monterrey), Startup Safary in October, the Future Agro Challenge (Tilek Toktogaziev) on the Bishkek → Athens track, and the Venture Capital Lecture series in May. By November the question for Bishkek’s developer community had moved from “what is a hackathon” to “what makes a startup actually work after the demo day” — and DevFest 2015 was the natural place to answer it. The talk’s role inside the wider 2015 ecosystem set is to fill the gap that the founder-pitching events did not: the long view, addressed to the engineers who are usually on the building side of the room rather than the pitching side.

The talk is not a tutorial. It is a talk at the developer community that built most of the technical work behind 2015’s Bishkek startup events, given by someone who had just spent twelve months inside their projects.
